I have to write this because I haven't read any review on the build quality of this earphone. All the good reviews and cheap price should have raised the red flag but I failed to see it, so I bought it.
The outer cover for cord is braided fabric. It kinks and frays very easily. After about a month of use I started to see the outer cover for the wire kink and fray in multiple places. The inside rubber insulator was exposed and bent, eventually the rubber insulator tore exposing the wire.
45 bucks for 3-4 months of use. That's a bad deal.

These earphones were given Consumer Reports' highest rating for budget earphones, so I bought them thinking that the sound quality and comfort would be great. And when you first put them in, they are great but if you try to turn your head or move the lower half of your face JUST A BIT, they fall out. I was constantly reinserting them and paying more attention to this than the music. Within a few days, I went out and bought a cheap pair at Walmart, and those have been fantastic!

These sound wonderful, their sound quality is far better than that of any cheaper earbuds I've ever used. But the cord is really shoddy. The wire itself is first wrapped in a thin rubber casing, and over that is woven nylon or something similar. With the first pair of these that I purchased, the wire began to get pinched by the nylon around the neck of the jack, until it eventually separated some of the woven strands and the rubber encased wire began to poke through the opening. It wasn't long before the wire began to separate from being worked back and forth due to this (plus as the cord leaves the jack it is fed through a very hard piece of plastic that terminates without any flexible rubber leader like you normally find with other headphones---so the point at which the cord exits is very vulnerable to being worked around while you carry your MP3 player in your pocket or whatever---this happened with mine). Eventually one of the buds began to fail because the wire had been worked to separation by entirely routine use (I'd had it roughly 3-4 months). It was under warrantee, so I sent off for a new one. The same problem, only worse. With the new set, the cord has bunched in several places rather than just one. I eventually had to clip the nylon around a few locations and repair it with electrical tape. They're worth doing that for, to me, given that I'd paid for them already, and they do sound great. But overall, I'd suggest passing on what seems like a great deal here.
